Taryn Williams has been shaping the influencer and creator world in Australia for 15 years, and she saw where it was heading well before the rest of us. She started Wink Models at 21 with $30,000 of her own savings, launched the two-sided creative marketplace The Right Fit as influencers were first becoming a thing, sold it to international acquirers, and now runs Gifted, a gifting platform for brands and creators.

In this episode, Taryn sits down with Nathan Bush to unpack a career spent designing friction out of the creator industry. We get into how Gifted started as a "simple" five-page website and grew into a platform with around 11,000 creators and 5,000 brands, built like a dating app where creators swipe on the products they want to receive. Taryn breaks down how to actually make influencer gifting work by relinquishing creative control, why you have to measure campaigns against a real goal instead of a vibe, and what the Shopify integration unlocks for DTC brands by automating inventory and capturing content. She also shares why founder energy has a use-by date, her take on assuming positive intent with brands that try, and the wild story of feeding Claude all her WhatsApp threads to build herself a brutally honest AI life coach.

Is raising money the same as being successful? Rohan McCloskey used to think so. In this clip, the GoGenerosity founder is honest about the biggest regret from his startup journey: raising capital too early, before he'd found product-market fit.

Rohan doesn't regret raising altogether, some of his investors were the reason the business made it at all, but he'd do the timing completely differently. His hard-won view: raising money should be about putting fuel on the fire, not proving you've made it, unless you're in deep-tech or hardware R&D where capital funds the idea itself. His story went the other way. GoGenerosity started as an in-store physical product and burned cash chasing enterprise customers, who he warns will suck a startup dry while decisions drag out over two to three years. By the time the team found real product-market fit in ecommerce, the money was gone and it was back to a solo founder grind. His reflection: imagine how much faster they could have grown if that capital had been there once they actually knew what worked.
