[Voiceover]: Welcome to the checkout. We catch up with previous add to cart guests and ask them five quick questions to get to know them better and leave you with a little extra inspiration to get you through your Friday.
Nathan Bush: Today's checkout features Ashley Hanger, founder of Strip Supply, Australia's first diabetes subscription box service. After getting together with her partner Ashley, a type 1 diabetic, Ashley realized that this was a prime area for subscription and couldn't believe no one else was doing it. Ash, welcome to the checkout.
Nathan Bush: We've heard all about Strip Supply, which is very exciting solution for diabetics.
Nathan Bush: But we're here to learn a little
Nathan Bush: bit more about you. Five quick questions. Number one, what's the weirdest thing that you've ever bought online?
Ashley Hanger: My slime collection.
Nathan Bush: Slime collection?
Ashley Hanger: Yes. I'm a big lover of slime. It's my inner child coming out. I have a terrible time focusing, so. So usually in meetings, particularly zoom meetings, I'm playing with slime.
Nathan Bush: Have you got it right now?
Ashley Hanger: I don't. I wish I did, but if I was at home, trust me, I'd have some slime in my hand. There's actually a shop in Brisbane called Slime Pop. They're my favorite.
Nathan Bush: A whole shop for slime?
Ashley Hanger: Yes. Yeah, it's really great.
Nathan Bush: Didn't realize it was a thing. It's fantastic.
Ashley Hanger: It is a thing. That the Kardashians are onto it, so it's gotta be a thing.
Nathan Bush: Yeah.
Nathan Bush: Okay, there we go. All right, number two, who is your
Nathan Bush: favorite retailer aside from Slime Pop?
Ashley Hanger: Honestly? Basic answer, but it's got to be Iconic or asos. I think their email flows are next to none. Their welcome flows, their abandoned cart emails, I absolutely froth over that stuff. And sometimes I pop things in my cart at the Iconic just to see what their abandoned cart sequence is this month.
Nathan Bush: You're a sicko.
Ashley Hanger: Yeah.
Nathan Bush: All right, number three, which e commerce
Nathan Bush: practice do you wish was history?
Ashley Hanger: Multiple pop ups. They've got to stop one pop up. Fine. Multiple pop ups. Absolutely not. Just let me get to your website already.
Nathan Bush: Now, I'm on your website right now and we got a little pop up, but it was for a chat.
Ashley Hanger: Oh, yes, I think that's okay. It's my website. It's fine. I think if the pop up is helping the customer, yeah, sure. But please stop asking me to sign up to multiple e newsletters just to get to your website.
Nathan Bush: Quick question on that pop up, though. If I pop in a little question
Nathan Bush: in there, who's answering that?
Ashley Hanger: Definitely our customer service representative beautiful who might be me.
Nathan Bush: So don't ask right now while I'm talking to you, because I won't get an answer for a while. All right, number four, can you recommend a book or a podcast that our listeners should immediately get into?
Ashley Hanger: Yes, you should read Shoe Dog by the founder of Nike. I've just finished reading this book and I was inspired because I felt like it really summed up exactly where I am right now in my business. And and it is a very poignant reminder that everyone has to start somewhere and it takes years until you become Nike. So yeah, definitely go read Shoe Dog.
Nathan Bush: Great recommendation. Great book. Number five, finish this sentence.
Ashley Hanger: The future of retail is automated and subscription based.
Nathan Bush: Of course. Why would it be anything else?
Ashley Hanger: Correct.
Nathan Bush: If I was to reframe the sentence and say the future of medical retail online is.
Ashley Hanger: Same answer, same answer, but definitely customer focused and not practice focused. So definitely putting the customer at the center of a transaction instead of the
Nathan Bush: pharmacy or the hospital makes a lot of sense.
Nathan Bush: Ash, thank you for joining us on the checkout.
Ashley Hanger: No worries.
Nathan Bush: To hear more from Ashley, jump back into episode 206 where Ash shares Strip Supplier's focus on community, particularly her Gen Z customers. She also discusses the super supportive pharmacist who's been behind the business right from the very start and how Ashley manages the infinite variety of options in a diabetics medical supply kit.
Nathan Bush: Thanks for listening.
Nathan Bush: And until next time, keep adding to carp.
