“After almost 50,000 hours of cleaning in over 200 different offices, we just have all this data and I just love sharing than

Unique environment, unique cleaners

“The stages that e-commerce…usually starts from home and then goes to this small facility with a shed or warehouse somewhere else.  And then eventually, the ultimate goal or dream for them is to have a one site with everything. And so the cleaning requirements, what I see a lot that happens, they take the same cleaner that was doing their home to then do the biggest warehouse. And that is a big mistake that we see, because it just does not work.  Each section needs to be approached in a different way with a different checklist, with a different schedule, with different tools.

The warehouse is quite an industrial space, right?  So there’s a lot of dust and whatnot, so there’s a way that we actually stop all that dust and debris going into the office. You don’t have that in a traditional office. It’s fast paced, toilets get absolutely destroyed because the amount of people running up and down in a warehouse. And there’s sometimes one toilet. So they get absolutely destroyed. They need to increase the frequency that you clean the toilets.

Also, a lot of these traditional offices, working from a building, they have a body corporate that looks after the facilities, the common spaces.  There’s none of that in the e-Commerce space. Right? Once they get to a certain level and they have their own facilities. So we’ve got to look after them. We need to help them with toilet consumables, dispensers and window cleaning, because they just don’t have a facilities manager.”

Care culture

“We’ve cleaned almost 50,000 hours, 50,000 hours and, worked with over 200 offices. So with all that experience, I can walk into a place like a business, an office, and I can tell the sort of culture they have based on how they run and keep their office.

The toilets, the kitchen is a big one, their workstations, are they messy? Do they not care? I can tell the level of care through just by looking at it at a new place. So that’s a big one.

And I think we look for those who care. Otherwise, if by default, they don’t care. Like how fun is it gonna be to work with them? I find that super interesting actually.”

Empowering employees

“Workplace experience is like in, um, in a business that’s the foundation to your culture, right? Culture is not like shocking them. Hey, here’s our values and here’s what you do here.  And this is our mission, read it.

No, it’s actually each touch point. So you need to start thinking, okay…you realize that you can get your employees to take part in so many micro decisions and that empowers them. And that actually, basically engages them and then you can measure engagement.”
