AI-powered shopping assistants are constantly emerging in eCommerce, but do they actually enhance the shopping experience? Are they merely glorified chatbots, or can they truly help customers make smarter purchasing decisions? And what makes a good one?
As part of our online education community, Add To Cart CAMPUS, we wanted to dig deeper into this emerging technology and provide retailers with real insights. To do this, we partnered with Michael Tutek, Founder & CEO of preezie, and put their AI Shopping Assistant to the test.
For the first time on Add To Cart, we recorded an in-depth demo so retailers can see firsthand how the assistant functions, what results it’s delivering, and what the implementation process involves. We also gained exclusive insights from Blue Bungalow, a Brisbane-based fashion retailer, to understand their early performance data and explore how Australian eCommerce businesses might benefit from AI shopping assistants.
Here’s what we discovered.
🔍 What Sets This AI Shopping Assistant Apart?
There are plenty of AI chatbots promising to improve customer experience, but preezie’s AI Shopping Assistant goes beyond being a simple chatbot—it serves as the ‘eCommerce brain’ of your store.
Unlike traditional Q&A bots, this assistant is embedded within product pages to provide real-time recommendations. It utilises brand-specific data such as sizing logic, fit advice, and fabric details to give product-specific results. It is built for ecommerce with add-to-cart, bundling, and product discovery to boost conversions. Michael emphasized that the major innovation here is that this AI assistant generates responses dynamically rather than relying on a static set of pre-written answers.
One thing we did notice, and Michael acknowledged, is that the results are not as fast as you may expect from your typical GPT responses. preezie are focusing on relevance and quality over speed. It will be an interesting space to watch as we know customers will always look for speed.
👗 Blue Bungalow’s Experience – What Were the Results?
One of the first Australian retailers to experiment with the AI Shopping Assistant was Blue Bungalow. They implemented it on their homepage and product pages to assist customers in finding the perfect size, style, and fit—without requiring them to sift through filters and FAQs.
Their early findings included a 5.5% to 8% conversion rate lift from customers engaging with the AI Shopping Assistant. Additionally, they had a 30-40% add-to-cart rate for AI-powered recommendations and an increased average order value customers discovered complementary products.
While still in the early stages and based on limited case studies, the data suggests that customers are ready to embrace AI assistants and they can lead to more engaged shoppers and higher conversion rates when executed properly.
🛠 Is Implementation Complicated?
A common concern for retailers is the complexity of integrating new technology – especially when it relies on a quality dataset to power it.
Michael explained that the AI assistant is designed for seamless integration, working directly with a retailer’s existing eCommerce platform. It automatically pulls in existing product data, reducing the need for manual setup. For retailers, this means no need to pre-program every response—the AI adapts dynamically, and it works with existing sizing logic to provide personalized recommendations.
We talked about the ongoing training and maintenance of the model. While a limited lift is required, we feel that the retailers who get the most out of this tool will treat the AI Shopping Assistant as a team member rather than a piece of software. By regularly reviewing output and upskilling it with new information, you can have an ecommerce brain that never takes holidays or goes home!
Additionally, the pricing model can be capped or limited, which makes it a low-risk option for retailers curious about AI but hesitant about a complicated setup process or upfront investment.
